From Skeptical to Sold: Helping a Veteran Buy His First Home in 23 Days
"This is the story of a home, but really it is the story of trust. When a veteran and his wife reached out, more than a neighborhood was at stake. Adam had been burned by agents before and had heard enough horror stories from friends to be guarded. Watching that wariness turn into trust, and then into keys in hand, is exactly why I love this work."

On August 31, 2026, I had the joy of standing with Adam and his wife at the closing table for 4502 Monaco Drive in Sandston, Virginia. The contract price was $367,000, and the feeling in that room was pure relief and pride. Less than a month earlier, buying a home had felt like a risk Adam was not sure he wanted to take.
Adam is a veteran, and he came to me already wary. He had not had good experiences with real estate agents in the past, and he had heard enough horror stories from friends to make him cautious. When a trusted referral first connected us, he showed up leery and ready to be disappointed. I understood that right away. When you have been burned before, trust is earned, not handed over.
Over two weekends, I took Adam and his wife through several homes. We toured, we talked, we walked neighborhoods, and we compared what they dreamt about against what each house really offered. I did not push and I did not rush. We kept looking until we found the one that felt right, the house they could genuinely picture as their first home.
Once we found it, we got to work, and that is where the magic happened. From accepted offer to closing took just 23 days. That speed took coordination, but more than that, it took trust. They had to believe me when I told them the truth, even when the truth was not what they wanted to hear. After we closed, Adam told me that what impressed him most was how honest I was, that I told him the truth and never just agreed with whatever he wanted to hear. That is a compliment I will carry with me.
That quick timeline meant working hard to get the inspections completed, including a reinspection that turned up a few things that needed attention. Both the contract and the close faced a delicate balance, and the whole thing got put to the test in the days leading up to closing.
Right after we went under contract and got through the inspection and the request for repairs, I left the state for a vacation I had planned earlier in the year. Walking away at that exact moment felt a little nerve-wracking, but I had a plan in place to make sure nothing dropped. While I was away, I coordinated with another agent who helped me go over for the reinspection to make sure every repair was actually done correctly.
That is where the integrity of the process really showed. On the reinspection, we found that some things the contractor said were done actually were not. It would have been easy to take the word on the paperwork and move on, but that is not the standard I hold for my clients. I worked with the other agent to get the repairs that had been agreed upon earlier fixed properly, staying on top of every detail even from out of state. Adam later told me how much he appreciated that I kept the whole process moving and never let the ball drop while I was away on vacation.
That is how a good transaction should go: honest from every side, communicated out in the open, checked even when nobody is watching, and finished right on time. When it came down to it, the truth won out and the home was ready when it needed to be.
We closed on time, and now Adam and his wife get to enjoy their very first home together. He served our country, and I am honored to have helped another veteran plant roots here in Virginia. For me, honesty and integrity are the heart of doing right by clients, and this sale is proof that it works. I will always tell you the truth, work hard on your behalf, and do everything I can to give you a closing that feels calm.
A big thank you to LPT Realty for the referral, and to Jolynn with Veterans Lending Group for trusting me to help him every step of the way.
